Timber foundation

- Can I install a greenhouse without a foundation?

You can, but we recommend using the foundation, as it:

  1. Serves as a support for the frame, provides rigidity to the base.
  2. Provides resistance to snow and wind loads, serves as an anchor for the greenhouse.
  3. Increases the overall height and volume of the greenhouse.

For the base we use a bar of natural moisture from coniferous wood.

Scope of delivery: timber (for easy transport, timber is supplied with a maximum length of up to 4 m) + connecting corners and plates for assembling the foundation.

Advantages of a timber foundation:

  • Forms the perimeter of the greenhouse (does not allow the ground to crumble)
  • Gives the greenhouse an attractive appearance
  • Eco-friendly
  • Easy installation

Disadvantages:

  • It is prone to cracks, loss of geometry and discoloration (these are common wood properties).
  • Timber reduces the usable area inside the greenhouse.

Nevertheless, timber is one of the most popular types of foundation.
We recommend using timber 150x100 or 100x100.

We do not recommend using a beam of a smaller section, for example, 50x100 (board), even for the sake of economy, due to its small size and poor stability.

To fix the beam to the ground, we recommend using anchors (lugs).

Please note! The sale of goods is carried out only when purchasing a greenhouse of our production!

Building the foundation

Proper foundation fixing

The dimensions of the foundation are shown on the example of the greenhouse “Osnova « 3x6 m

  1. Anchors (ground hooks) - It is recommended to install at least 2 anchors (ground hooks) diagonally.
  2. Fastening brackets - For easy transport, the bar is supplied with a maximum length of up to 4 m.
  3. Balk

It is advisable to install a timber foundation on a pre-prepared flat surface.

In order to prevent the greenhouse from being overturned or moved by the wind, it is necessary to secure the timber foundation to the ground with additional anchors (ask for anchors in sales offices).

Proper foundation fixing

Please note! Anchors (grouse hooks) are driven into the ground after installing the foundation of timber on the level.

The minimum recommended number of anchors (ground hooks) for a foundation made of 3x4 timber is 2 pcs., 3x6-4 pcs., 3x8-6 pcs.

If the surface has not been leveled in advance, then after installing the greenhouse, it is necessary to eliminate gaps between the ground and the foundation to prevent wind blowing, shifting or turning the greenhouse.

Hurray! I’ve got an awesome greenhouse „Tudor“ on my patch! It’s decorated in white. The size‘s 3*4 meters, the height of the greenhouse is 2,74 m and of the sidewall is 1.92m. Can you believe it? It’s as spacious as a room! Instead of a standard door I equipped it with sliding doors. My greenhouse is installed on a steel foundation - that’s really modern and durable, which is not unimportant. I also ordered some steel beds in different sizes for growing greens and vegetables. Be sure to buy a hanging shelf and a table. It’s really handy! They’re easy to install and remove and there’s no need to drill or screw anything. In a word, I’m really pleased and strongly recommend the company. They operate clearly and quickly but most importantly- qualitatively.
